        Dog poisoning. Please read carefully.

Dog poisoning is caused by so many factores such as food, chemicals and pestisides, indoor and outdoor plants. Here are some of the causes, symptoms and treatments.
Some pet owners/ pet lovers/ animal lovers may know about dog poisoning but so many are found to have no any idea about it.

There are various things which can affect your pet dog/any dog’s health detrimentally. This includes chocolates, onions, fish, raisens, grapes, avocado, macadamianuts, rhubarb leaves, etc. These all are toxic food for dogs.

Onion poison in dogs :

How and why are onions Toxic for dogs.

Onions are among those commonly used ingredients of food item.onions are among oldest vegetable that belongs to the ‘Allium’ family. By research this found to be toxic for dogs. Other members of this family, like garlic etc. are also toxic for dogs but onions are found to be more toxic, as compared garlic.Onions in any form, like cooked or raw, powdered or dehydrated can cause symptoms of toxicity in dogs. This is because of presence of thiosulfates in onion.Dogs are not capable to digest this compound. This compound is absorbed into dog’s bloodstream, where it breaks down the haemoglobin molecules. This damages the red blood cells. They will eventually burst and will damage of vital organs like heart and kidney of dogs.

  • Symptoms of onion poisoning in dog :

Intake of onions will develop symptoms that may range from mild to severe. Intake of onions in very small amounts may not produce any symptom in dog. But it may cause damage to the red blood cells and this may detected by diagnostic tests. But severity of toxicity may vary with age of dog, his breed and size, and the amount of consumed.
However a dog may develop onion toxicity,if it consumes onions that amount more than 0.5% of its body weight. In some cases, dog may show symptoms within a 24 hours.Symptoms of onion poisoning in dogs start with Gastroenteritis.

The will have vomiting, diarrhea, weakness and loss of appetite. The red blood cells will get damaged, so affecting the transportation of oxygen and nutrients to the organs.
Within a few days, the dog will develop breathing trouble, pale to bluish gums, mouth irritation, lethargy, skin rashes, increased heart pulse rate, etc.The urine of the dog may get reddish in colour because the damaged red blood cells passes out. With such symptoms, immediate  medical trearment has to be provided for dog.

  • Treatment for onion poisoning in dog :

Onion toxicity may range mild, moderate or severe.Diagnosis of this condition is done with blod tests. In mild cases may not require much treatment but severe ones need urgent medical attention for saving the life of dog.The treatment may vary with the condition of the affected dog.The dog may be provided with incravenous fluids and supportive care.In case of severe symptoms, oxygen and blood transfusions therapy may also required.

Always check the ingredients before giving your pet dog/any dog any packaged food product. Onion poisoning can be fatal, if the amount of consumption is quite large.

Chocolate poisoning in dogs :

Common poisonous food for dog is chocolate. Why chocolates are bad or poisonous for dogs ?

Please read carefully.Chocolates are made from cocoa beans, that contain a natural stimulant compound theobromine. The amount of theobromine vary in different types of chocolates. It is that theobromine that is poisonous for dogs. This affects the urination, central nervous system and the heart muscles.

According to the Merck Veterinary Manual the approximate theobromine levels present in different types of chocolates are as below :

  §  Dry cocoa powder – 800 mg/ oz
   §  Cocoa bean mulch – 255mg/ oz
§  Milk chocolate – 44-64 mg Theobromine per oz chocolate
   §  Unsweetened ( Baker’s chocolates) – 450 mg/ oz
§  Sweet dark chocolates and semi-sweet
      chocolates – 150-160 mg/oz
§  White chocolate contains an insignificant source of methylxanthines

  • Symptoms of Chocolate Poisoning in Dogs :

After ingestion of chocolates, the symptoms of chocolate poisoning in dogs can be as follows:

Excitement, nervous, diarrhea, excessive thirst, excessive urination, muscle spasms, increase of dog’s body temperature, rapid breathing, low blood pressure, extreme response to light and noise, etc.

  • Treatment of chocholate poisoning in dog :

If you observe symptoms of chocolate poisoning in dog you should not waste a single minute. You should immediately call / take the dog to the veterinarian. The toxicity of chocolate depends on the size of the dog, type of dog and the quantity of chocolate eaten. The veterinarian may use some supportive therapies to reduce the amount of theobromine in the body and treating chocolate poisoning in dogs.He may give the dog IV fluids to prevent dehydration due to vomiting and diarrhea, excessive urination and to flush out the theobromine. Emetics may be given to induce vomiting. If the ingestion period is more than 4 hours and the dog continues to show signs of toxicity, then the doctor may use activated charcoal.Seizures in dogs are treated with anti-seizures medications. Those are with irregular or excessive heartbeat will be given cardiac medications.

If the dog exhibits the symptoms of poisoning, you should not waste a single minute.Immediately take your dog to a veterinarian. The best way to eliminate the poison from the dog’s intestine is to induce vomiting.

Remember, may your pooch love to eat chocolates but its toxic for him so if you really love and care for your pet dog/ any other dog say ‘no chocolate please’ to him.

Some more other causes of poisoning in dogs.

  • Rat poisonin:
Rat poison consume rodenticides, this is a toxic substance that is found in different types of rat / mice poison.

  • Lead poisoning:
This causes by the ingestion of items that contain lead such as toys, drapery weights, fishing weights and lead shots

  • Antifreeze Poisoning :
Automotive antifreeze contains ethylene glycol which is highly dangerous for dogs. A single sip of antifreeze can cause dog poisoning as this toxin is rapidly metabolized and absorbed by the system. It destroys the renal tubular cells of the dog's kidneys.

Zinc poisoning in dogs is also very common.

This Caused by direct or indirect contact with steel products such as nuts and bolts.
If your dog has accidentally ingested any kind of poisoning, plant and shows symptoms of poisoning,it is best to consult a veterinarian right away. However, make sure that you do all only under the vet's recommendations.

Remember that the best way to avoid severe toxins, take precautions and proper care of your pet dog/ any other dog.

Do not abandon your pet, he is your beloved family member.

He sat by the road
hours passed so slow,
tired and hungry
and all alone,
and no other place to go.

Though his family left him by the road,
but he is thinking,
he is lost from them,
he is not walking as
he is still thinking,
they must be searching for him.

Slowly as time is passing,
now is fearing with setting sun,
he is scared now
but still patiently waiting .

Dusk has come
still he is thinking
he is lost from his family
they will come.

Dawn appears,
he is tired, lies there
shivering in cold,
he is hungry
his throat is parched and dry.

Now cheeks are wet
with his tearsTears
but still he is waiting.

Hours pass and came another day
he wants to move
but is afraid
for if he will move
and his family will come
for searching him

Who will make him understand
do not wait child
your family will not appear
you are not lost
but they dumped you

No one will know your pain
no one from your family will come
you will starve to death
along the road
so hungry, so thin,
but still waiting.

You are confused
you want to ask
with tears in your eyes.

That what you have done wrong
you always loved your family
why they will leave you alone to die.

Your unconditional love
still can not understand.
Still you trust them
that your family loves you
will come to take you home.

So child, you are waiting
and will be waiting till you die
but your family will not return.

Important Information About Hyperactivity In Dog

Hyperactivity in your pet (dog)

Symptoms : aggressiveness, impulsiveness, restless, distracted easily, inability, constantly chase its tail, abnormal behaviour, licking its feet, spinning in circles, barking constantly and some similar behaviours.
Reasons : There are various reasons of hyperactivity in a dog.
Like hearing or vision problem, less exercise, lack of space to move freely, less cared and loved by owner, natural personality, etc physical and emotional factors can be the reasons.
Treatment for Hyperactive pet (dog) - Do's and Dont's

§  A hyperactive dog can be treated through prescribed medication such as anti-anxiety drugs. They can be treated with Dexedrine, they are used for treating the same condition in humans.

§  Always Remember - Pup are curious, exited and full of vim chew, bite, taste, everything they can get in their mouth. They do not have opposable thumbs so they use mouth to manipulate and examine all the objects around. It is up to us to teach them.

§  Setup a strict routine from the start. Without routine pup became stressed, hyper, unhappy. So schedule for pet so that it knows it is time to eat, walk, nature’s call, sleep, time to play. In this way he knows exactly what is expected of him.

§  With a hyperactive pup, don’t loose your patience. Don’t shout at him at all. Shouting, anger, frustration will cause pup to get more mischievious and hyper, aggressive, frighten. If you stay calm and consistent, your pup will learn from you and will become calm and consistence

§  It is important to set up some house rules and stict to it.

§  Speak basic pet commonds in a firm tone of voice to get your pet attention. Use an authoritative tone of voice and differ from your normal speechtone so pet should recognize commands.

§  Repeat name and every word then slowly praise... he will understand what you are saying.

§  On your pet’s mischief, bad behaviour, say NO, in simple but firm voice and then command. Slowly he will understand.

§  If your pet has lots of energy, take it out for a walk in open area, park. The large area will give your pet enough space to play, exercise and walk. It will consume your pet’s a lot of energy, leaving it exhausted and he will be calm.

§  Reward your pet if it obeys and follows your orders.

§  Feed your pet a quality food. Avoid masalas, oil, sugar, other sweet food in its meal as diet also plays a significant role in his behaviour.

§  Its all up to you so just ignore your pet’s hyperactivity, stay calm and consistent and see how he settles down.

Ways you can help stray animals and birds

These simple acts of kindness can go a long way in saving and bettering the lives of stray animals and birds.

Take the initiative today.

  • Feed stray animals and birds. To animals you can give – milk, bread, roti, vegetables, biscuits and other non-masala food items. To birds, you can offer grains ( like jowar and bajra )
  • Keep water for them. It is not only during summer that animals need drinking water. A large number of stray animals and birds die due to dehydration. Like humans, they need water and food everyday. Please put up water bowls for them on house roof, window, balcony, car parking lot, road-side, park, etc.

  • Do not dispose left-over food and kitchen waste in polythene bags as animals choke on these bags.
  • Oppose the use of animals and birds for entertainment. The video below made my blood boil. It shows callous treatment of an unsuspecting donkey - all in the same of business promotion by a company in Russia.
  • Do not cage animals and birds.
  • Before you drive your vehicle, look under it to ensure that there is no animal there. Dogs and cats are in the habit of sleeping under vehicles and get badly hurt or even killed in the process. So you start your vehicle, wait for some time before putting it in the gear. This will give time animal to run away.
  • Oppose the cruelty against animals. You can take legal action against cruelty.

  • Keep phone numbers of local animal shelters and hospitals handy for any emergencies.
  • Help strays by being kind to them, funding causes, rescuing them, adopting, fostering, feeding, and in any other way.

Help animals not out of pity but love and compassion.

Spread this awareness.

This Post Is Dedicated For Blind / Physical Disable Strays.

Friends,

My this post is for the strays who are suffering of blindness / physical disabilities and unwilling hearts.

Look Away, Look Away Look Away....

Little feet scurring across a darkened street,
Mama and baby can’t find enough to eat.
Ribs pocking out through fur,
We are hungry, can you see please ?
Look away, look away, look away from me !

Little tom cat, battle scars every where,
No time to stop and rest,
Puffy jaws make you look tough.
Look away, look away, look away, It's easy enogh !

Greasy oil makes her/his coat dull,
But it’s warm in the engine when cold winds blow.
Grimy fur, bag of bones,
An uncomfortable glance will do.
Look away, look away, look away, No kind touch for you !

Runny eyes, racking cough,
What could it be ?
Feline leukemia or may be some more dangerious?
Look for a healthy pet, that is what they say

No home for you little one, i am sorry.
Look away, look away, look away from me !

We just speak different languages, You and I.
I will blink my eyes at you, Rub against the tree,
Then you will know,
It’s a peace sign, Don’t you see?
I am slowly dying, and i do feel so alone
Inside me a pretty heart, give me a chance,
Then only you will know !
Look away, look away, look away from me !

I see the tears in your eyes
Look away from me,
Please look away from me !
- Auther Unknown
