Help Animals In Distress - Labrador Mother And Son Are Up For Free Adoption !

I am sharing this post behalf of Anoopa.
-Manisha Matta

LISTEN UP BANGALORE - INDA :

On the left of this photograph is a 5-year-old female Labador. On the right is her 2-year-old son. Both of them have been rescued from a house where they were being severely mistreated. The mother seems to have a proble...m with her right eye and the son had a spinal injury. The original "family" told us that both injuries took place because the dogs tried to jump off a wall, whatever that means. The son, because he was boisterous, had his mouth AND feet tied up everyday, for the entire time that the man of the house was away at work. Both dogs are currently in a shelter. They are inseparable and need to find a home together. Since they've been through enough trauma already, separation from each other is not ideal.
To adopt, please call me, Anoopa, on 9845430054. Please please share this forward, so we can end their misery for once and for all.

Lakdi - One Of My Toughest Rescue Cases !

This is Lakdi (stick). She is from my location. She is the part of my daily stray feeding.
Do not laugh at his name. Some reason behind it why I gave her this name. Because she is thin but very active and alert. Her body is very stiff like lakdi (stick) only. When she runs no one can catch her. While running she looks very funny as at the time her body looks like somebody has thrown a stick in the air.

One day she suddenly disappeared. I kept searching her for so many mornings, afternoons, nights but was unable to find her. After some days she suddenly appeared on her feeding time. But we were scared to see her. Her face was badly injured and one ear and one eye was swollen and completely closed. She was in trauma. When I went close to her she started crying and running. After that it is a big story of hide and seek. She was sometimes appearing in afternoons and sometimes in nights. I started keeping an eye on her. It was continue for so many days. I was worried about her. Because of wounds there were chances of maggots. I called Ida India for help. Thanks to them they gave excellent response for the kid. But she had severe injuries and pain so she again disappeared. Ida people came 2-3 times for her.

Very tough story of her rescue but God helped me otherwise she would have died. Finally after so many days I got success in rescued her and called Ida again. And as usual Ida again gave very quick response. They took her at their Deonar - Mumbai centre.

Lakdi was admitted in Ida. Vets and care takers took so much good care of her. After her full recovery  they hand overed Lakdi to us on my colony gate. 10-12 days has passed. My maids took her inside our colony. Now she is living here in my compound happily. She play with us a lot, love us so much. She eats properly and she is doing good by her health. May God bless her.

Thanks to God for everything. I am very thankful to my family, my husband and both children who always support and help me so much in my work, whatever rescue, adoptions, treatments, feeding, so many other things. In Lakdi's rescue My Husband helped me so much !!

Thank you once again Ida India from cores of my heart for always your quick response and great work. Hats off to entire Ida team. May God bless them. They are doing amazing work indeed and provide day and night services.

May God bless all kind souls who are helping our furry friends. They need us. They have no voice without us. Please be voice of them.

See the pictures of Ladki - Before I rescued and then after treatment from Ida, playing in my colony.

Thanks.

Diabetes In Dogs :

The growing diabetes disease is not limited to humans but it is increasing among dogs as well. It is a common disease in dogs. According to researchers, one in 150 - 200 dogs will develop the Diabetes. The average age for this disease is 6 - 9 years.

What is diabetes in the dog ?
Animal lovers, pet owners should know about the disease well.
Diabetes is a result of inadequate (lacking) production of insulin by the islet (the pancreas contains clusters of cells that produce hormones. These clusters are known as islets) cells in the pancreas. Insulin enables glucose to pass into cells. There it is metabolized to produce energy for metabolism. Insulin deficiency results in high blood sugar and high urine sugar. Diabetic dog passes large volumes of urine and sometimes this creates dehydration so the dog urge to drink large amount of water.
3.44 - 6 mmol/L and 62 - 108 mg/dL is considered as normal glucose values range for dogs.

There are two types of diabetes in dogs.
Type 1 diabetes is insulin-dependent/ juvenile. This is analogous to the type which affects virtually all dogs.
Type 2 diabetes is adult onset. This type is the result of insulin resistance linked to diet and obesity.

Symptoms :
Here are some common symptoms of diabetes in dogs.
Dizziness, confusion, excessive thirst, increased urination, lethargy, depression, weakness, loss of balance, trembling, vomiting, weight loss despite normal/increased food consumption, some times loss of consciousness, cataracts and blindness can also be a symptom, etc.

Causes :
*Heredity - If dog's parent s had diabetes, there is high chance dog may develop diabetes. or sugary foods are consuming high amounts of sugars and carbohydrates. It affects the blood glucose levels.
*Obesity - Is a common and important reason. Fattening or sugary foods are consuming high amounts of sugars and carbohydrates. It affects the blood glucose levels. In result dog may develop diabetes.
*Steroids - If dog is need to be given steroid shots to help with other ailments so it may affect the pancreas. In results an imbalance of insulin levels. This may be the cause of diabetes.
*Diseases - Some diseases affects the pancreas and in results abnormal production of insulin in the dog's body. So in future it may cause of diabetes.

Diagnosis :
The diagnosis of diabetes in dog is easy to confirm. There are simple tests of sugar (glucose) in the blood and urine. If the blood glucose concentration is consistently higher than normal it means dog's pancreas is not enough insulin. Dog is suffering from diabetes mellitus. Because of diabetes dog may get some other diseases like enlarged liver, ketones in urine, elevated cholesterol/triglycerides low blood phosphorus levels, increased urine specific gravity resulting from dehydration, etc. So there should be test done for these diseases.

Cataract and blindness :
Most of dogs develop cataracts / blindness within few months/a year of being diagnosis with diabetes. Cataract can develop fast and it left untreated. It can lead to blindness and glaucoma. Catracts can be surgically removed. So proper diagnosis and treatment should be followed.

Preventions of dog diabetes :
The best way to prevention is keeping dog at a healthy and balanced diet and normal weight. Regular exercise will prevent obesity in dog. As this is important to know if dog's parents have a history of diabetes so it will help in prevention. Cut out fattening and sugary food.

Treatments of dog diabetes :
There are different treatment options including home remedies are available to treat dog's diabetes.

Insulin therapy - There are several types of insulin like Humulin, Humalog, Novalog, etc.

The Humulin N -  is used along with insulin for the treatment of diabetes..It helps to control the dog's sugar/glucose level. The amount of insulin needed according to size and level of diabetes dog has.

Diet for diabetic dog -  There should be the right and healthy diet for diabetic dog. It is very important. Fattening or sugary food should not be given to a diabetic dog. Dietary fiber in moderate amount is good for diabetic dog. It slows gastric emptying/ the digestion of carbohydrates, which slows the release of glucose. Other dietary control and daily injections of insulin will help to keep diabetic dog active and healthy.

Blood sugar level testing kits - There are kits available to help monitor dog's diabetes. So you can monitor and keep watching dog's condition regularly. It includes a glucose monitor, test strips, syringes.

Home remedies/ Natural treatments for dog's diabetes :
There are some good home remedies/natural treatment options which can help to keep the dog's diabetes not cured but in control.
*Karela - It can stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin. It helps to improve the absorption of food.
*Cinnamon - It works by substituting insulin in the blood. Very small amount only can be given into dog's food.
*Bejak - It is a herb which helps to reduce the presence of blood sugar. It also helps for urination related problems in dog's diabetes.
*Chromium - This is a mineral in the body. It is important and necessary to help the pancreas create natural insulin. It may be given to diabetic dog as a supplement to balance glucose level in the body.
*Vitamin - E - It helps reduce insulin dependency. Can be given daily.
Also Apple cider vinegar and grapefruit can help in control excess weight of dog.

If you see the signs of hypoglycaemia in dog you can give honey, corn syrup, pancake syrup. This should be rubbed on dog's gums/ under the tongue. One gram of glucose can be given in hypoglycaemia. Since glucose acts fast and quickly so response of dog should be seen within a minute or two. Everything should be given according to size and weight of the dog.

Diabetes disease Complications in the dog :
Ketones, Nonketotic hyperosmolar syndrome, dehydration, Cushing's disease, rental, liver and cardiac insufficiency, chronic inflammation, cancer, severe obeysity, etc.

Finally - Diabetes can not be cured. It is lifelong process but it can be controlled. An experienced veterinarian is the best advisor.

Always take care of not only your pet but also take care of all animals/stray animals. They need your love, care, help and support as well as your pets.

Early in the disease canine may run a short period of fever. The most common form of Parvovirus infection is a acute inflammation of the small intestine. This is characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, profound dehydration and depression.True diagnosis requires an antibody test that detects the actual parvovirus in stool samples. Survival ratesdepends on how quickly parvovirus is diagnosed, even the age of canine and how aggresive the treatment is. Due to the severe dehydration and damage of intestines, treatment usually involves hospitalization. It ideally consists of crystalloid IV fluids and may collorids, antinausea injections. IV fluids should be administered and injections should given subcutaneously or intravenously. The fluids are typically a mix of a sterile and balanced electrolyte solution. A solution called colloidal silver is especially useful in treating parvo.Once canine keeps fluid down, the IV fluids are gradually discontinued and compeletly bland food slowly introduced. Oral antibiotics should administered for a number of days depending on the white blood cell count and the canine's ability to fight with secondary infection.
Remember, the virus lives for long periods of time on food containers, floors and household objects. Treating a canine with parvo would involve confining it to a separate room, away from other canines and children. Make sure the canine has everything it requires around the crate. Administer the prescribed dosage of medications regularly.Take good care of the canine. Parvo can be prevented with the administration of yearly vaccinations and preventing it is essential.

Brownie - A Special Child. He Is Blind

Meet another special child - Brownie.  He is blind. Please read about him and help .

Bronie was rescued from Meera road. He had severe maggot wound, which was a more than month old. It was on its neck till abdomen. The maggots has caused severe damage to his brain and eyes as a result he became blind. He started getting fits. After prolonged treatment he has recovered from the wound and became healthy. But his blindness and fits have continued. He needs lot of care as slightest fear or anxiety leads to fits. During fits he has damaged most of his teeth and bleeds from its mouth and anus.

He regularly needs sedative, nerve tonic and multivitamins. Because of damaged teeth he can eat only soft things, like milk-rice, milk biscuits, milk-bread,egg.

To keep him healthy we need helping hands. Please come forward to help him by Adopting/ donating Medicines/ rice/ milk / biscuits/ funds, anything you are willing to help.

This is every day’s requirement. Urgent help is required. Spread the word for Brownie and save his life.

Do not abandon your pet, he is your beloved family member.

He sat by the road
hours passed so slow,
tired and hungry
and all alone,
and no other place to go.

Though his family left him by the road,
but he is thinking,
he is lost from them,
he is not walking as
he is still thinking,
they must be searching for him.

Slowly as time is passing,
now is fearing with setting sun,
he is scared now
but still patiently waiting .

Dusk has come
still he is thinking
he is lost from his family
they will come.

Dawn appears,
he is tired, lies there
shivering in cold,
he is hungry
his throat is parched and dry.

Now cheeks are wet
with his tearsTears
but still he is waiting.

Hours pass and came another day
he wants to move
but is afraid
for if he will move
and his family will come
for searching him

Who will make him understand
do not wait child
your family will not appear
you are not lost
but they dumped you

No one will know your pain
no one from your family will come
you will starve to death
along the road
so hungry, so thin,
but still waiting.

You are confused
you want to ask
with tears in your eyes.

That what you have done wrong
you always loved your family
why they will leave you alone to die.

Your unconditional love
still can not understand.
Still you trust them
that your family loves you
will come to take you home.

So child, you are waiting
and will be waiting till you die
but your family will not return.

Dear Animal Lovers,

If you have pets at home, i hope you love them and continue taking care of these sweet beings. However, if for whatever reason in future, please do not dump, abandon your them.
Pets are emotional beings and can not imagine staying away from their families. The feeling of being abandoned often kills many. They are your beloved  family members. Accept them with your heart and love. You are only the world for their lives. Come what may, never abandon your pet.

Hence Godforbid, do not let your beloved family member live and die in such, loneliness and despair.

To The World You May Be Just One Person, But One Life You May Be The World.

Important Information About Hyperactivity In Dog

Hyperactivity in your pet (dog)

Symptoms : aggressiveness, impulsiveness, restless, distracted easily, inability, constantly chase its tail, abnormal behaviour, licking its feet, spinning in circles, barking constantly and some similar behaviours.
Reasons : There are various reasons of hyperactivity in a dog.
Like hearing or vision problem, less exercise, lack of space to move freely, less cared and loved by owner, natural personality, etc physical and emotional factors can be the reasons.
Treatment for Hyperactive pet (dog) - Do's and Dont's

§  A hyperactive dog can be treated through prescribed medication such as anti-anxiety drugs. They can be treated with Dexedrine, they are used for treating the same condition in humans.

§  Always Remember - Pup are curious, exited and full of vim chew, bite, taste, everything they can get in their mouth. They do not have opposable thumbs so they use mouth to manipulate and examine all the objects around. It is up to us to teach them.

§  Setup a strict routine from the start. Without routine pup became stressed, hyper, unhappy. So schedule for pet so that it knows it is time to eat, walk, nature’s call, sleep, time to play. In this way he knows exactly what is expected of him.

§  With a hyperactive pup, don’t loose your patience. Don’t shout at him at all. Shouting, anger, frustration will cause pup to get more mischievious and hyper, aggressive, frighten. If you stay calm and consistent, your pup will learn from you and will become calm and consistence

§  It is important to set up some house rules and stict to it.

§  Speak basic pet commonds in a firm tone of voice to get your pet attention. Use an authoritative tone of voice and differ from your normal speechtone so pet should recognize commands.

§  Repeat name and every word then slowly praise... he will understand what you are saying.

§  On your pet’s mischief, bad behaviour, say NO, in simple but firm voice and then command. Slowly he will understand.

§  If your pet has lots of energy, take it out for a walk in open area, park. The large area will give your pet enough space to play, exercise and walk. It will consume your pet’s a lot of energy, leaving it exhausted and he will be calm.

§  Reward your pet if it obeys and follows your orders.

§  Feed your pet a quality food. Avoid masalas, oil, sugar, other sweet food in its meal as diet also plays a significant role in his behaviour.

§  Its all up to you so just ignore your pet’s hyperactivity, stay calm and consistent and see how he settles down.
